Demolition - Part I

So a lot has been happening here since the cabinet trip from hell. It's hard to find time to keep this blog updated with all the work that needs to be done, but I'll take a break and give a quick update.

We are well underway in the demolition phase of this project. Last week we had our basement waterproofed, so while the guys were out here I decided to just have them knock down our garage too! If you go look at the pictures on our Flickr account you will see that it was leaning pretty good and needed to come down anyway. Now the decision is: where do we build the new garage and how big do we build it?

The basement looks 100x better than it did before. It might actually be able to be used for storage space or something. Right now I have the wall cabinets from the kitchen down there and am starting to paint them. That's a whole different project in itself.

We've actually made one improvement to the house that doesn't involve tearing something down. Dad and I worked last weekend up in the attic laying down another layer of insulation. Hopefully it will help the heating bill some. I also made a door to the attic at the top of the stairs to keep the cold air up there. I'll upload some pics of it sometime...

Next on the agenda is to get our new windows installed in the kitchen, living room and dining room. Hopefully that will happen this weekend or early next week. Stay tuned.

Be sure to check out our pictures on Flickr.

If you don't mind me asking, was it pretty cheap to get the garage taken down? Ours will have to come down in the next year or two as well (foundation walls are at a 30 degree angle = garage at an almost as bad angle).
